Unforgettable

Although #4 is not a true island hole, it might as well be. The front and right side of the green are water. Left lurks a large trap, and if you go over, long grass awaits to consume your ball. The wind normally blows straight into you or left to right making club selection difficult. The hole plays 168 yards from this back, elevated tee. Beautiful but deadly.

Tester

Hole #8 is a 90 degree dogleg. Your drive must carry 230 yards from the blue tees to reach the opening. If you are fortunate enough to find the fairway, there is water all the way from tee to green on the left. The green is also guarded by many bunkers.

Directions

From I-5 N & S take exit 307. Go west on Marine Drive to the Expo Center. Turn left at the end of the Expo Center building. The golf course is ¼ mile down the road on the right. From downtown Portland or just heading north on I-5, take the 306B Delta Park/Expo Center exit. At stop sign go left under the freeway. At the dead end turn right and follow signs to Heron Lakes.

Heron Lakes Great Blue golf course lives up to its name with water on 18 holes of play. This traditional links style course is challenging yet beautiful with lots of water and tall wild grass. Water foul and other creatures abound throughout this challenging layout.

What is a simple swing thought? - Byron Wood

Every golfer needs a swing thought to help them repeat their swing. I like to think about my shoulders doing the work, thus helping me make a fluid weight shift. Start the backswing by pushing your left shoulder back until it is right of the ball. Start the downswing by moving the left shoulder back to its original position at address. Then, after impact continue to the finish position. I've found this to help golfers from coming over the top with their right shoulder on the downswing.
